The Adventures of Farmer Nick and Plant: Kids eCourse FAQ

We are thrilled to introduce our comprehensive and engaging Plant eCourse, The Adventures of Farmer Nick and Plant. This Blended Learning eCourse is designed to inspire a love for plants, encourage positive childhood experiences, and help meet Next Generation Science Standards for ages 4+.

What is the purpose of this workbook?

This workbook is designed to teach Plant Explorers the four basic needs a plant must have in order to survive: soil, seeds, sun, and water. It aids them in their understanding of the correlation between plants and their needs all while giving them joy and passion for plant exploration!

What age group is this workbook suitable for?

The workbook was designed for ages four and up. However, many of the activities can be adapted for different skill levels. Assistance needed may vary depending on age.

How can I use this workbook effectively?

This workbook is designed to be flexible. You can use it as a structured curriculum for an exploration unit of plants or as an activity book for occasional plant-themed learning.

What to Expect with The Adventures of Farmer Nick and Plant?

  1. Videos: Our eCourse includes free videos of Farmer Nick and Plant modeling five of the experiments for young learners to follow. Our young learners (or as we call them Plant Explorers) will not only get to participate in hands-on activities but will laugh in joy at these silly characters.

  2. Workbook: Along with these videos, we have created a workbook that may be purchased for our Plant Explorers to dive deeper into the five main lessons with up to fifteen differentiated activities!

  3. Adaptability: Whether our Plant Explorers are in school, at home, or even in the car they will have the opportunity and ability to do one of the many different activities.

  4. Standards-Based: The Adventures of Farmer Nick and Plant was created with the mindfulness and integration of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) along with supporting writing, reading, and math standards.

  5. Accessibility: Once our eCourse is accessed it will always be available for our Plant Explorers. We will offer discounts for Class Wide Purchases and Scholarships for those in need.

Do I need any special materials or equipment?

Most of the activities in this workbook use common household items like pencils, crayons, and scissors. Some activities may require more, but we have provided an easy-to-use material list so you will know ahead of time what you will need and an estimate of how long the activity will take.

Can I adapt these activities for homeschooling or a classroom setting?

Absolutely! The workbook is adaptable for both homeschooling and classroom use with standards to back it up. Teachers can integrate the curriculum into their science unit, and guardians may use it as a supplemental learning workbook.

Are there any safety considerations for the activities?

Yes, safety is important. We have made it clear when an adult is needed for a potentially hazardous experiment. That being said, activities should always be read through thoroughly and guardians should ensure their child's safety.

How can I encourage my child's interest in plants beyond this workbook?

Great question! After completing the workbook, consider taking your child on nature walks, visiting botanical gardens, or starting a small garden together. Encourage them to show you what they have learned and to ask questions along the way.
